I have been writing on and off for a number of years, drawing on my spiritual beliefs and folk tales I have heard from around the world during my mad pretend-hippy days of back-packing around the globe. I finally became a responsible adult (after living in a bus like a refugee from a Cliff Richard movie) and settled back on the Isle of Wight. I took up work as a psychiatric nurse and this always took precedence until at the ripe old age of fifty-five, I decided to retire and go part-time so that I could finally work on the books I have been writing over the years. I am a Pagan priest and an ordained minister of the Church of Spiritual Humanism. I write for pleasure and now I want to share that pleasure with you. I hope these books bring you as much enjoyment in the reading of them as they have given me in the writing of them.

An avid reader from a young age, I started branching out into writing years ago. I started with several rather ambitious stories that were probably doomed to failure to begin with, above and beyond the personal circumstances that lead to me abandoning writing for years. Due to a chance overheard conversation while on the bus from school, an idea took root and I suddenly had the urge to write again. From there, my work has only grown -- and the future continues to look bright. Currently, I'm a web programmer looking for a job. Getting my degree was great, but it doesn't do me any good sitting up on my wall looking pretty!

Black And Blue, The Blue Series Volume 3 by Josephine Dillon Black And Blue, The Blue Series Volume 3 by Josephine Dillon April 20, 2012 Free! 207414 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Josephine Dillon was born March 9th, 1969 in Kenitra, Morocco, to parents Patricia and Eugene Godfrey. She grew up in Oceanside, one of the northern suburbs of San Diego, California, graduating from Vista High School. She later attended San Diego State University, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in nursing. She has been a registered nurse since graduating in 1995, working in the profession for the past sixteen years. As a novice writer, I wrote the first three books from The Blue Series during the years 2006 through 2009 and am currently writing the fourth and final book in the series. The story was created in the early 1980's, when I was a young teenager. These novels are my first work of fiction. Please note that all the characters and story are fictional and only a few isolated incidents paralleled my existence at the time. The Irish Setter Reuben, the high school, and the home address were all from my childhood and not fictional. I attended and graduated from Vista High School, (survived is more like it), and I lived and grew up in Oceanside. The failed attempt to drown was my experience, and I will admit to wanting desperately to be a boy when I was growing up. Along with that, I also had a very vivid imagination. My family, however, were not at all similiar to the Smiths - I had loving, caring, nonjudgemental parents who adored me. Hope you enjoy the book but most importantly for new writers like me, please write a review? Even if the book did not appeal to you, could you state why? I would really appreciate it. To those readers who braved a download of Beyond The Blue Part 1 and 2, please make sure to download the latest versions. I found a huge mistake in the sequencing of the chapters in the book and would appreciate it if my readers could download it again (it's free!) so that they can read it the way it should be read. This book was just too big to be a single work, which is why I spliced it, however in doing so, I made a mistake in the timing of the story. I hope you enjoy Beyond The Blue Part 1 and Part 2. Part 2 is for adult readers only and I've chosen to make it free because I want to write for the fun of it. If you catch grammatical errors, I apologize, but since I am my own editor, please forgive me. I am currently editing my third book, Black and Blue and it's another beast, 600 pages long. I'm editing slowly in my free time but it's tedious. If you would like me to split it up into two parts like I did the second book, then send me an email or write on my facebook page. I am also currently writing the fourth book, about 150 pages into it. Please write me reviews? I thrive on it and enjoy reading your thoughts. Or post a comment on my facebook page. This is my hobby and I will continue to allow downloads of my books for free to Smashword readers. If you want a printed copy, I am currently at Off The Book Shelf, but that will cost you because I only get a small percentage of the profit and can't set the price. I might look into Create A Space instead if it will save the reader money. We'll see what happens, til then, happy reading.

I am of mixed parentage (a man and a woman) and have lived in more countries than I can count on hands and feet together. I speak several languages, and believe in multiculturalism, tolerance, and free champagne also in economy class. I dislike bigots and fanatics of all denominations. I am hugely uncomfortable with labels, even seemingly benign ones such as 'gay,' 'straight,' or 'sugar-free' and prefer instead to judge people by their sense of humor and shoe size. I believe that everybody, regardless of race or gender, income or size of genitals, should be gay for a year. Over the past two decades, I have published hundreds of stories and novellas and set them free on the Internet, not always under my real name. Some of them have mated with other texts, music and videos, to produce the most curious offspring. One story has left the known universe and is currently a best-seller on Pharus II. Most of my recent books concern the lives and adventures of men, both today, in history, and in the future.

I write for the joy of meeting new people--my characters--and learning what happens to them. I'm very interested in the discovery of a person's true nature and sexual identity, and exploring different genres and structure. I have been writing since ...ever. I won my first national writing award in sixth grade (a small, dusty trophy in a hutch at my mother's). Like many authors, I edited and contributed to my high school and college creative writing magazines, then life got in the way and didn't write for years. Flash forward and I sold some magazine articles in fields I was interested in (music and travel) and all over again, I fell in love with watching words appear on the screen. More to the point, I fell in love with characters appearing on my screen, moving and breathing and living on their own. I fell in love with setting things up, and watching what happens. I hope you will enjoy sharing their journey! Karin

Author bio:
I live in Campbell, California and work for the County of Santa Clara. I love to write humorous stories (with happy endings) about flawed (but endearing) individuals readers can relate to. I think it's a writer's job to produce the highest-quality work because the writer is asking each reader to devote numerous hours to a story. A writer should never waste a reader's leisure time with sub-standard writing. Besides writing, I also enjoy crafting, beadwork, sewing, and any sort of design work. I have two small dogs, two turtles, and a loud cockatoo. I'm highly involved in refurbishing the Lending Library at the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center and devote most of my volunteer time to the center.

The River in Winter by Matt Dean The River in Winter by Matt Dean May 11, 2010 $2.99 140286 words Sample 25%
Author bio:
Matt Dean began writing in the seventh grade, when his best friend bragged about writing a novel, and he wanted to be able to do the same. (Brag, that is. The writing was somewhat incidental at first.) His earliest efforts consisted of endless lists of characters that somehow never got into action on the page, novels that were barely longer than short stories, and plays that recycled entire plots from Neil Simon. In short, though The River in Winter is not his first novel, it is the first that will ever see the light of day. Matt attended Heidelberg College—now Heidelberg University—in Tiffin, Ohio, where he majored in music and economics. He has had the honor and privilege of studying the craft of writing in workshops led by David Leavitt, Timothy Schaffert, and Carol Bly. In addition to writing fiction, Matt routinely populates his blog— entitled “Letters from the Country” in honor of a book of essays by his mentor, Carol Bly—with diatribes and observations concerning food, pop culture, technology, politics, and book design. Ardently but intermittently, he composes both classical and popular music. Matt lives in South Carolina with his partner, Todd, and their three dogs, Charlotte, Candice, and Tallulah. He works at home, telecommuting full-time for a software company. He is a programmer of a sort; his actual job duties often amount to the digital equivalent of holding an ancient engine together with chewing gum and duct tape. Todd and Matt are corporate members of the Unitarian Church in Charleston. Matt serves on the board of the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry.

Stranded by TJ Johnson Stranded by TJ Johnson April 25, 2010 $9.99 139749 words Sample 50%
Author bio:
TJ began writing his stories in the eighties, mostly for fun and for friends. He was still working full-time for someone else and the career took up more time than he wished. In 2005, he began working for himself with hopes of spending more time on his writing. On the computer were several novels not yet produced, so while writing new material, he began searching for outlets for the books he'd completed. His favorite part of writing is the crafting of the rough draft, a period in the process when the words fly from the storage center deep in his brain like a movie stuck on fast-forward. The agonizing part begins with the painstaking restructuring as the editing begins, but it is a joy when the tale is finally finished. TJ often works on three stories at once, each in different stages of production. He does this to keep his creative skills at peak performance, and because he believes fiction is just too much fun!

Author bio:
Miles Geerhart was born a true Washingtonian, raised in Seattle, Washington. He does, however, confess to spending several formidable years in exile in Carnation, WA. After reading one of The Hardy Boys books, he love for reading just became second nature. Never without some kind of reading material had Miles deciding to try his hand at writing for Tolt High School's newspaper, The Tolt .45. It wasn't until 2003 that he thought about writing a novel. He wrote Veil of Secrets in about a year, but after many rejection letters, he put it away on a shelf. In 2010, after hearing about eBooks, he revisited his novel and, after some serious re-writes and editing, published Veil of Secrets in January, 2011. Currently Miles is working on his new novel and looking forward to a mid- to late-summer release with Smashwords Publishing. When Miles isn't sequestered to his desk and laptop, he enjoys reading, watching movies, cooking, and spending time whenever possible with his friends and family. Two of his favorite hobbies are collecting coffee mugs from cities around the country and collecting statues of dolphins and whales, in addition to an unnatural desire to play hidden object games. Lately Miles has taken to reading the best of classic literature with such titles as The Count of Monte Cristo, Wuthering Heights, Paradise Lost, and Prufrock and Other Observations by T.S. Eliot now grace the bookshelves of his Kobo, Nook, and Kindle. Miles live in Sequim, Washington.
